Under the leadership of Dr. T.K. Jayakumar and the Cardiac Surgery Department, Kottayam Medical College successfully performed Kerala’s first lung transplant in a government hospital. The lung was obtained from Aneesh, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, who had suffered brain death, and transplanted to a patient at Kottayam Medical College.
The surgery began at 11 PM on Wednesday and continued late into the night. The hospital also performs heart transplants, and it is extremely rare for surgeries involving both heart and lung transplants to take place simultaneously in the same department.
Years of dedicated efforts by the team led by Dr. T.K. Jayakumar, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department, prepared the hospital for these complex heart and lung transplant surgeries.
The organs of A.S. Aneesh from Thiruvananthapuram, who experienced brain death while undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College, have given a new lease of life to seven patients. The organs were arranged to be provided to patients receiving treatment at various hospitals.
അഭിമാന നേട്ടവുമായി കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ്. ഡോ. ടി.കെ. ജയകുമാറും ഹൃദ്രോഗ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ വിഭവത്തിന്റെയും നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ കേരളത്തിലെ സർക്കാർ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ ആദ്യമായി ശ്വാസകോശം മാറ്റിവെച്ചു. മസ്തിഷ്കമരണം സംഭവിച്ച തിരുവനന്തപുരം സ്വദേശി അനീഷിൽനിന്നാണ് കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽകോളേജിലെ രോഗിക്ക് ശ്വാസകോശം ലഭിച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച രാത്രി 11 മണിയോടെ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ ആരംഭിച്ചു. രാത്രി വൈകിയും ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ തുടർന്നിരുന്നു. ഹൃദയമാറ്റ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയും നടക്കുന്നത് ഇവിടെ തന്നെയാണ്. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ ഒരേസമയം ശ്വാസകോശവും ഹൃദയവും മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കുന്ന ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾ നടക്കുന്നതും അത്യപൂർവ്വമാണ്. ഹൃദ്രോഗ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയവിഭാഗം മേധാവിയായ ഡോ. ടി.കെ. ജയകുമാറിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള സംഘത്തിന്റെ വർഷങ്ങളായുള്ള പരിശ്രമമാണ് ഹൃദയവും ശ്വാസകോശവും മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കാനുള്ള ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയ്ക്ക് ആശുപത്രിയെ സജ്ജമാക്കിയത്. കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ ചികിത്സയിലിരിക്കെ മസ്തിഷ്കമരണം സംഭവിച്ച തിരുവനന്തപുരം പൂഴനാട് ഒറ്റശേഖരമംഗലം മണ്ഡപത്തിൻകടവ് കാവുംഭാഗം വീട്ടിൽ എ.എസ്. അനീഷിന്റെ അവയവങ്ങളാണ് ഏഴുപേർക്ക് ജീവിതത്തിലേക്കുള്ള തിരിച്ചുവരവിന് കാരണമായത്. അവയവങ്ങൾ വിവിധ ആശുപത്രികളിൽ ചികിത്സയിലിരിക്കുന്ന രോഗികൾക്ക് നൽകാൻ നടപടികളായി.
