The Institute of Advanced Virology, Thonnakkal, Thiruvananthapuram, has developed a pseudovirus testing system capable of detecting Nipah virus infection in both humans and animals. Following the recent Nipah outbreak in Palakkad and Malappuram districts this year, these tests are being carried out at the Institute. According to Health Minister Veena George, this new testing system will also help identify whether people included in the Nipah contact list have been infected without showing any symptoms. Currently, RT-PCR and Truenat tests are the preferred methods for early detection and treatment of Nipah virus since they directly identify the virus in the initial stages of infection. On the other hand, pseudovirus-based tests and ELISA tests detect antibodies produced by the body in response to the virus.
മനുഷ്യരിലും മൃഗങ്ങളിലും നിപ വൈറസ് ബാധ കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിയുന്ന സ്യൂഡോവൈറസ് പരിശോധനാ സംവിധാനം വികസിപ്പിച്ച് തിരുവനന്തപുരം തോന്നയ്ക്കലുള്ള ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് അഡ്വാൻസ്ഡ് വൈറോളജി ഈ വർഷം പാലക്കാട്, മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലകളിൽ നിപ ബാധയുണ്ടായ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ മേൽപ്പറഞ്ഞ പരിശോധനകൾ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് അഡ്വാൻസ്ഡ് വൈറോളജിയിൽ നടക്കുകയാണ്. അതുപോലെ നിപ സമ്പർക്ക പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളവർക്ക് രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ പ്രകടമാകാതെ അണുബാധ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നറിയാനും പുതിയ പരിശോധനാ സംവിധാനം ഉപകരിക്കുമെന്ന് ആരോഗ്യമന്ത്രി വീണാ ജോർജ് വ്യക്തമാക്കി. മനുഷ്യരിൽ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന നിപ ബാധ, അതിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ തന്നെ കണ്ടെത്താനും ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തിൽ തന്നെ ചികിത്സ ഉറപ്പാക്കാനും ഇപ്പോൾതന്നെ നാം വ്യാപകമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ആർ ടി പി സി ആർ പരിശോധനകളും ട്രൂനാറ്റ് പരിശോധനകളും ആണ് അഭികാമ്യം. ആർ ടി പി സി ആർ പരിശോധനയിലും ട്രൂനാറ്റ് പരിശോധനയിലും വൈറസിനെ തന്നെയാണ് കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത് എന്നതിനാൽ രോഗവ്യാപനത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ തന്നെ രോഗം നിർണയിക്കാൻ കഴിയും. എന്നാൽ സ്യുഡോവൈറസ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചുള്ള പരിശോധനകളും എലിസ പരിശോധനയും വൈറസിനെതിരെ ശരീരം പ്രതിപ്രവർത്തിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ആന്റിബോഡികളെ ആണ് ടെസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. കോഴിക്കോട്, മഞ്ചേരി മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജുകളിലെ വി ആർ ഡി എൽ ലാബുകളോടും ആലപ്പുഴ, പൂനെ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ NIV ലാബുകളോടുമൊപ്പം നിപ രോഗം കണ്ടെത്താൻ ആർ ടി പി സി ആർ പരിശോധന തുടർച്ചയായി നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥാപനമാണ് IAV.
