The Central Government has banned the production, sale, and distribution of all medicines containing more than 100 mg of the painkiller nimesulide. The ban has been imposed citing that such medicines are hazardous to human health and comes into effect immediately. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a notification in this regard.
The notification states that the decision was taken after it was established that the use of medicines containing more than 100 mg of nimesulide could pose serious health risks to humans. The government has also pointed out that safer alternative medicines are available.
The action was taken under Section 26A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, following consultations with the Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
Earlier, in January, the Central Government had banned the production, sale, and distribution of all nimesulide-containing medicines used as painkillers for animals. This decision followed studies conducted by scientists at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, which confirmed the dangers associated with the drug.
വേദനസംഹാരിയായ നിമെസുലൈഡ് 100 മില്ലിഗ്രാമിൽ കൂടുതൽ അടങ്ങിയ എല്ലാ മരുന്നുകളുടെയും ഉത്പാദനം, വിൽപ്പന, വിതരണം എന്നിവ കേന്ദ്ര സർക്കാർ നിരോധിച്ചു. മനുഷ്യന്റെ ആരോഗ്യത്തിന് അപകടകരമാണെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയാണ് നിരോധനം. ഉടൻ പ്രാബല്യത്തിൽ വരുന്ന രീതിയിലാണ് നിരോധനം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ആരോഗ്യ കുടുംബക്ഷേമ മന്ത്രാലയം ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച വിജ്ഞാപനം പുറത്തിറക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 100 മില്ലിഗ്രാമിൽ കൂടുതൽ നിമെസുലൈഡ് അടങ്ങിയ എല്ലാ മരുന്നുകളുടെയും ഉപയോഗം മനുഷ്യർക്ക് അപകടകരമാകാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്ന് ബോധ്യപ്പെട്ട സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് നിരോധനമെന്ന് വിജ്ഞാപനത്തിൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഈ മരുന്നിന് പകരം സുരക്ഷിതമായ മറ്റ് മരുന്നുകൾ ലഭ്യമാണെന്നും സർക്കാർ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.1940-ലെ ഡ്രഗ്സ് ആൻഡ് കോസ്മെറ്റിക്സ് ആക്ടിലെ സെക്ഷൻ 26എ പ്രകാരം ഡ്രഗ്സ് ടെക്നിക്കൽ അഡൈ്വസറി ബോർഡിന്റെ കൂടിയാലോചനയ്ക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് നടപടി.കഴിഞ്ഞ ജനുവരിയിൽ നിമെസുലൈഡ് അടങ്ങിയ മൃഗങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള വേദന സംഹാരിയായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ മരുന്നുകളുടെയും ഉത്പാദനം, വിൽപ്പന, വിതരണം എന്നിവ കേന്ദ്രം നിരോധിച്ചിരുന്നു. ബറേലിയിലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ വെറ്ററിനറി റിസർച്ച് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിലെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞർ നടത്തിയ പഠനങ്ങൾ ഇതിന്റെ അപകടം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചതിന് പിന്നാലെ ആയിരുന്നു ഇത്.
