With the aim of better utilizing the potential of nuclear medicine in diagnosis and treatment, the government is launching a postgraduate (PG) course in Nuclear Medicine. For the first time in India, this postgraduate program is being introduced at Kozhikode Medical College. Two seats have been allotted for this course.
Medical experts believe this will be a significant step forward in cancer treatment, paving the way for advanced technologies in the field. Through nuclear medicine technology, it will be possible to understand the functions of body cells at the microscopic level and target only the affected cells for treatment after accurately identifying disease conditions.
This field will also support various other branches of medical science. Just like doctors, technicians are essential in nuclear medicine. To work as a technician, candidates must have completed a B.Sc. course approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
Kozhikode Medical College already offers this B.Sc. course, with its first batch started in 2024 and a total of six seats available.
രോഗനിർണയത്തിലും ചികിത്സയിലും ന്യൂക്ലിയാർ മെഡിസിന്റെ സാധ്യതകൾ കൂടുതലായി പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തൽ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട് സർക്കാർ തലത്തിൽ ന്യൂക്ലിയാർ മെഡിസിനിൽ പി.ജി കോഴ്സ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. രാജ്യത്ത് ആദ്യമായി കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളജിലാണ് ഈ ബിരുദാനന്തര ബിരുദ കോഴ്സ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. രണ്ട് സീറ്റാണ് ഇവിടെ അനുവദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. കാൻസർ ചികിത്സാരംഗത്തെ സുപ്രധാന ചുവടുവെപ്പായിരിക്കും ഇതെന്ന് മെഡിക്കൽ വിദഗ്ധർ അഭിപ്രയപ്പെടുന്നു. കാൻസർ ചികിത്സയിൽ അത്യാധുനിക സംവിധാനങ്ങളൊരുക്കാൻ ഇത് വഴിതെളിയിക്കുമെന്നാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ. ശരീരത്തിലെ കോശങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവർത്തനം സൂക്ഷ്മതലത്തിൽ അറിയാനും രോഗാവസ്ഥ മനസ്സിലാക്കി രോഗബാധിത കോശങ്ങളെമാത്രം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി ചികിത്സ നൽകുന്നതിനും ന്യൂക്ലിയാർ മെഡിസിൻ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യ വഴി സാധ്യമാകും. മറ്റു വിവിധ ചികിൽസാ വിഭാഗങ്ങൾക്കും ഇത് സഹായകരമാകും. ന്യൂക്ലിയാർ മെഡിസിനിൽ ഡോക്ടർമാരെപ്പോലെ അനിവാര്യമാണ് ടെക്നീഷ്യന്മാരും. അറ്റോമിക് എനർജി റെഗുലേറ്ററി ബോർഡ് അംഗീകാരമുള്ള ബി.എസ്.സി കോഴ്സ് കഴിഞ്ഞവരായിരിക്കണം ടെക്നിഷ്യൻമാരായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കേണ്ടത്. ഈ കോഴ്സും കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളജിൽ ഉണ്ട്. 2024ലാണ് ഇതിന്റെ ആദ്യബാച്ച് തുടങ്ങിയത്. ഈ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ ആറ് സീറ്റുകളാണുള്ളത്.
