A recent study report reveals that the majority of suicide victims in the state are men. According to data from 2020 to 2023, 79% of those who died by suicide were male. The study was conducted by the Ernakulam District Department of Economics and Statistics. The report highlights that most of the victims were aged between 45 and 60 years. Districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam account for the highest rates, with 41% of the total cases in Kerala occurring in these five districts. Surprisingly, the tendency is more common among employed individuals than among the unemployed.
സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ജീവനൊടുക്കിയവരിൽ കൂടുതൽ പുരുഷന്മാരെന്നു പഠന റിപ്പോർട്ട്. 2020 മുതൽ 23 വരെയുളള കണക്കുകൾ പ്രകാരം ജീവനൊടുക്കിയവരിൽ 79 ശതമാനം പേരും പുരുഷൻമാരാണ്. എറണാകുളം ജില്ലാ സാമ്പത്തിക സ്ഥിതിവിവരക്കണക്ക് വകുപ്പാണ് വിഷയത്തിൽ പഠനം നടത്തിയത്. ജീവനൊടുക്കുന്നവരിൽ ഏറെയും 45 നും 60 നും ഇടയിൽ പ്രായമുള്ളവർ ആണെന്നും റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു. തിരുവനന്തപുരം, കൊല്ലം, ആലപ്പുഴ, പത്തനംതിട്ട, കോട്ടയം എന്നീ ജില്ലകളിലാണ് നിരക്ക് കൂടുതൽ. കേരളത്തിലെ ആകെ 41% ഉം ഈ ജില്ലകളിലാണ് സംഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്നും റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു. തൊഴിൽ രഹിതരെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് തൊഴിലുള്ളവരിലാണ് പ്രവണതയേറെയും. റിപ്പോർട്ടിന്റെ പൂർണ്ണരൂപം ദേശീയ സ്റ്റാറ്റിസ്റ്റിക്‌സ് ദിനാചരണത്തിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്യുമെന്നും അധികൃതർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
