Health Minister Veena George stated that leprosy can be completely cured with timely and proper treatment. The disease can be fully cured with one year of treatment, which is provided entirely free of cost at government health centers. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent disabilities caused by leprosy and also help stop the spread of the disease.
During the 2024–25 period, 368 new cases of leprosy have been identified. The minister was speaking while inaugurating the state-level launch of Ashwamedham 7.0 Leprosy Detection Home Visit Programme. Currently, 521 patients are undergoing treatment. The aim of the programme is to ensure early detection and treatment if anyone in the community shows symptoms.
The minister also noted that Kerala has the best health indicators in the country, the highest life expectancy, and the lowest maternal and infant mortality rates.
കൃത്യമായ ചികിത്സയിലൂടെ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം പൂർണമായും ഭേദമാക്കാനാകുമെന്ന് ആരോഗ്യ വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി വീണാ ജോർജ്. ഒരു വർഷത്തെ ചികിത്സയിലൂടെ രോഗം പൂർണമായും ഭേദമാക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. സർക്കാർ ആരോഗ്യ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ ചികിത്സ പൂർണമായും സൗജന്യമാണ്. ആരംഭത്തിലേ ചികിത്സിച്ചാൽ കുഷ്ഠരോഗം മൂലമുള്ള വൈകല്യങ്ങൾ തടയുന്നതിനും രോഗ പകർച്ച ഒഴിവാക്കുന്നതിനും സാധിക്കുന്നതാണ്. 2024-25 കാലയളവിൽ 368 ആളുകളിൽ പുതിയതായി കുഷ്ഠരോഗം കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അശ്വമേധം 7.0 കുഷ്ഠരോഗ നിർണയ ഭവന സന്ദർശനം സംസ്ഥാനതല ഉദ്ഘാടനം നിർവഹിച്ച് സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു മന്ത്രി. നിലവിൽ 521 രോഗികൾ ചികിത്സയിലുണ്ട്. സമൂഹത്തിൽ ആരിലെങ്കിലും രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടെങ്കിൽ ആരംഭത്തിലേ കണ്ടെത്തി ചികിത്സ ലഭ്യമാക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പരിപാടിയുടെ ലക്ഷ്യമെന്നും മന്ത്രി വ്യക്തമാക്കി. കൂടാതെ കേരളത്തിലെ ആരോഗ്യ സൂചികകൾ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ചതാണെന്നും,ഏറ്റവും അധികം ആയുർദൈർഘ്യം കൂടുതലുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് കേരളമെന്നും, ഏറ്റവും കുറവ് മാതൃ ശിശു മരണനിരക്കുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് കേരളമാണെന്നും മന്ത്രി വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
