The skin of 91-year-old Anandavalli Ammal was donated to the Medical College Skin Bank. Anandavalli Ammal firmly believed that age should not be a barrier to skin donation, and after her death, her family came together to fulfill her wish. As a result, the number of skin donations received by the Thiruvananthapuram Skin Bank became two.
A team of doctors from the skin bank visited her home to collect the skin. In addition to skin donation, her eyes were also donated. Anandavalli Ammal, who had been under treatment for more than five years after being affected by paralysis, passed away on Sunday evening. Since she died at home, it was not possible to shift her to a hospital for organ donation. Therefore, the skin bank team overcame practical difficulties and collected the skin from her residence.
Under the leadership of Dr. A. P. Premlal, Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at the Medical College, the team arrived with advanced equipment for skin retrieval and completed the procedures within four hours. Health Minister Veena George expressed her gratitude to the relatives who agreed to organ donation.
തൊണ്ണൂറ്റിയൊന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ആനന്ദവല്ലി അമ്മാളിന്റെ ചർമം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് സ്കിൻ ബാങ്കിലേക്കു ദാനംചെയ്തു. ചർമദാനത്തിനു പ്രായം തടസ്സമല്ലെന്ന ആനന്ദവല്ലി അമ്മാളിന്റെ ചിന്ത സഫലമാക്കാൻ മരണശേഷം കുടുംബവും ചേർന്നപ്പോൾ തിരുവനന്തപുരം സ്കിൻ ബാങ്കിൽ ഡൊണേഷനായി എത്തിയ ചർമ്മങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം രണ്ടായി. വീട്ടിലെത്തിയാണ് സ്കിൻ ബാങ്കിലെ ഡോക്ടർമാരടങ്ങുന്ന സംഘം ചർമം സ്വീകരിച്ചത്. ചർമത്തിനുപുറമേ ഇവരുടെ കണ്ണുകളും ദാനംചെയ്തു. പക്ഷാഘാതം ബാധിച്ച് കഴിഞ്ഞ അഞ്ചുവർഷത്തിലേറെയായി ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്ന ആനന്ദവല്ലി അമ്മാൾ ഞായറാഴ്ച വൈകീട്ടാണ് മരിച്ചത്. വീട്ടിൽവെച്ച് മരണമടഞ്ഞതിനാൽ അവയവദാനത്തിനായി ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തിക്കുക സാധ്യമല്ലായിരുന്നു. തുടർന്നാണ് സ്കിൻബാങ്ക് സംഘം പ്രായോഗിക ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾ മറികടന്ന് വീട്ടിലെത്തി ചർമം സ്വീകരിച്ചത്. മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് സർജറി വിഭാഗം മേധാവി ഡോ. എ.പി. പ്രേംലാലിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ചർമം എടുക്കാനുള്ള അത്യാധുനിക സംവിധാനങ്ങളുമായെത്തി നാലുമണിക്കൂറുകൊണ്ടാണ് നടപടിക്രമങ്ങൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത്. അവയവദാനത്തിനു തയ്യാറായ ബന്ധുക്കളെ മന്ത്രി വീണാജോർജ് നന്ദി അറിയിച്ചു.
