A middle-aged man undergoing treatment for amebic brain fever in the state has died. The deceased has been identified as Vijayan, a resident of Koduman, Attingal. Vijayan, a diabetic patient, had sustained a leg injury after a fall during the first week of last month. He was initially taken to Valiyakunnu Taluk Hospital and later shifted to the Medical College Hospital. It was through a blood test conducted at the Medical College that amebic brain fever was confirmed. Vijayan, a construction worker, is believed to have contracted the infection from an unknown source. Following the confirmation of the disease, the municipal authorities inspected his house and surroundings and also tested the drinking water. It was found that the infection was not contracted from his home. Vijayan had been under treatment at the Medical College for nearly a month. Two days ago, his fever worsened, and he was later declared dead.
സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് അമീബിക് മസ്തിഷ്ക ജ്വരം ബാധിച്ച് ചികിത്സയിലായിരുന്ന മധ്യവയസ്കൻ മരിച്ചു. ആറ്റിങ്ങൽ, കൊടുമൺ സ്വദേശി വിജയൻ ആണ് മരിച്ചത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ മാസം ആദ്യ ആഴ്ച വീണ് കാലിനു പരിക്കേറ്റ പ്രമേഹരോഗി കൂടിയായ വിജയനെ വലിയകുന്ന് താലൂക്ക് ആശുപത്രിയിൽ എത്തിക്കുകയും തുടർന്ന് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് ആശുപത്രിയിൽ പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ നടത്തിയ രക്തപരിശോധനയിലാണ് അമീബിക് മസ്തിഷ്കജ്വരം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്. കെട്ടിട നിർമാണ തൊഴിലാളിയായ ഇയാൾക്ക് എവിടെ നിന്നാണ് രോഗം പിടിപെട്ടതെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടിട്ടില്ല. മസ്തിഷ്കജ്വരം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ച ഉടൻ നഗരസഭ ഇടപ്പെട്ട് ഇവരുടെ വീടും പരിസരവും പരിശോധിക്കുകയും കുടിവെള്ള പരിശോധന നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. വീട്ടിൽ നിന്നല്ല രോഗം പിടിപ്പെട്ടത് എന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു മാസത്തോളമായി മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ ചികിത്സയിലിരിക്കെ രണ്ട് ദിവസം മുൻപ് പനി കലശലാകുകയും പിന്നീട് മരണം സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കുകയുമായിരുന്നു
