Reports indicate an increase in fever cases in Alappuzha district. Within a week, 4,600 people sought treatment at government hospitals. Reports also suggest that nearly twice as many people received treatment at private hospitals. Even after the fever subsides, symptoms such as cough, sore throat, loss of taste, and vomiting continue to trouble patients. Health officials point out that climate change and gatherings during festive seasons are the main reasons for the spread of diseases. Influenza is the most common illness spreading, and since influenza causes respiratory infections, many people continue to experience cough and sore throat even after the fever is gone. In addition to this, viral fever, dengue fever, rat fever (leptospirosis), malaria, and COVID-19 are also spreading widely. As the district has many water bodies, amoebic meningoencephalitis is also becoming a concern. The health department stated that because many of these diseases share similar symptoms, diagnosis is challenging and can only be confirmed through lab tests. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert against monsoon-related illnesses.
