A new drug brings relief to concerns about HIV, according to reports. The medication, named Lenacapavir, developed by Gilead Sciences, has been approved in the United States and Canada. The drug is expected to hit the public market by next year. The company claims that a single dose of Lenacapavir can offer protection for up to six months. Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Lenacapavir for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Professor Peter Newman from the University of Toronto, who researches HIV prevention, stated that this is a significant breakthrough in the fight against HIV and could help prevent many new HIV cases in the long run.
