സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ഈ വർഷം 23,000-ലേറെ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് മുണ്ടിനീരു സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചതായി റിപ്പോർട്ട്. ഈ മാസം ഇതുവരെ അറുനൂറോളം പേരാണു ചികിത്സ തേടിയത്. സർക്കാർ ആശുപത്രി വഴിയുള്ള സൗജന്യ വാക്‌സിൻ നിർത്തിയതാണ് രോഗവ്യാപനത്തിനു കാരണമെന്നാണ് ആരോഗ്യമേഖലയിലുള്ളവർ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞവർഷം 70,000-ലേറെപ്പേർക്ക് രോഗം ബാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. അങ്കണവാടി-സ്‌കൂൾ കുട്ടികളിൽ അടുത്തിടെ രോഗവ്യാപനം കൂടി. കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയിൽ 30 അങ്കണവാടികളും എട്ടു സ്‌കൂളുകളും അടച്ചിട്ടു. രോഗം നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്തതിനാൽ കൂടുതൽ സ്‌കൂളുകൾ അടച്ചിടേണ്ട സ്ഥിതിയാണ്. അഞ്ചാംപനി, മുണ്ടിനീര്, റുബെല്ല എന്നിവ പ്രതിരോധിക്കാൻ സർക്കാർ ആശുപത്രികൾ വഴി നേരത്തേ എംഎംആർ വാക്‌സിൻ സൗജന്യമായി നൽകിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ, 2017 മുതൽ സാർവത്രിക വാക്‌സിനേഷൻ പട്ടികയിൽനിന്ന് കേന്ദ്രം ഇതു നീക്കി. പകരം, മീസിൽസ്, റുബെല്ല എന്നിവ പ്രതിരോധിക്കാനുള്ള എംആർ വാക്‌സിൻ മാത്രമാക്കി. മുണ്ടിനീര് ഗുരുതര രോഗമല്ലെന്നും വാക്‌സിന് 100 ശതമാനം പ്രതിരോധശേഷിയില്ലെന്നും വിലയിരുത്തിയായിരുന്നു നടപടി. അതിനുശേഷമാണ് മുണ്ടിനീര് വ്യാപകമായത്.
