Health Minister Veena George announced on her Facebook page that Kottayam Medical College has become the first government hospital in India to perform heart, lung, and kidney transplants all in a single day.
This also marks the 11th heart transplant surgery conducted at Kottayam Medical College. The heart and lung transplant surgeries were led by renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and superintendent Dr. T.K. Jayakumar, while the kidney transplant surgery was led by Dr. Rajeevan.
The organs were donated by A.R. Aneesh (38) from Poozhanadu, Thiruvananthapuram, who was declared brain dead. A total of 8 organs were donated, of which a heart, lung, kidney, and two corneas were transplanted to patients at Kottayam Medical College.
Around 50 members, including doctors, nurses, perfusionists, technicians, and other staff, worked tirelessly day and night to carry out the three major transplant surgeries. The operations were performed simultaneously in three different operation theatres.
A 59-year-old man from Thrissur received the heart, a 27-year-old woman from Kottayam received the lung, and a 38-year-old man from Pathanamthitta received the kidney. Doctors confirmed that all three surgeries were successful, but emphasized that the first week remains critical for recovery.
The Health Minister congratulated the entire medical team for this remarkable achievement.
ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ആദ്യമായി ഒറ്റ ദിവസം ഹൃദയം, ശ്വാസകോശം, വൃക്ക എന്നിങ്ങനെ 3 പ്രധാന അവയവങ്ങൾ മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കുന്ന സർക്കാർ ആശുപത്രിയായി കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് മാറിയാതായി ആരോഗ്യമന്ത്രി വീണ ജോർജ് തന്റെ ഫേസ്ബുക് പേജിൽ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു . പതിനൊന്നാമത്തെ ഹൃദയം മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയും കൂടിയാണ് കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ നടന്നത്. ഹൃദയം, ശ്വാസകോശം മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയത് പ്രശസ്ത കാർഡിയോ തൊറാസിക് വിദഗ്ധനും സൂപ്രണ്ടുമായ ഡോ. ടി.കെ. ജയകുമാറും വൃക്ക മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയ്ക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയത് ഡോ. രാജീവനുമാണ്. കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ മസ്തിഷ്‌ക മരണം സംഭവിച്ച തിരുവനന്തപുരം പൂഴനാട് കാവിൻപുറത്ത് വീട്ടിൽ എ.ആർ. അനീഷിന്റെ (38) അവയവങ്ങളാണ് ദാനം ചെയ്തത്. 8 അവയവങ്ങളാണ് ദാനം ചെയ്തത്. അതിൽ ഒരു വൃക്കയും ഹൃദയവും ശ്വാസകോശവും രണ്ട് നേത്രപടലങ്ങളും കോട്ടയം മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിലെ രോഗികൾക്കാണ് ലഭിച്ചത്. ഡോക്ടർമാർ, നഴ്‌സുമാർ, ഫെർഫ്യൂഷനിസ്റ്റുകൾ, ടെക്‌നീഷ്യൻമാർ, മറ്റ് ജീവനക്കാർ ഉൾപ്പെടെ 50 ഓളം പേരാണ് രാത്രി പകലാക്കി 3 മേജർ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയത്. 3 ഓപ്പറേഷൻ തീയറ്ററുകളിൽ 3 ടീമുകളാണ് ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ നടത്തിയത്. തൃശൂർ സ്വദേശിയായ 59 വയസുകാരന് ഹൃദയവും കോട്ടയം സ്വദേശിനിയായ 27 വയസുകാരിക്ക് ശ്വാസകോശവും പത്തനംതിട്ട സ്വദേശിയായ 38 വയസുകാരന് വൃക്കയും വച്ചുപിടിപ്പിച്ചു. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിജയകരമാണെന്ന് ഡോക്ടർമാർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി . എങ്കിലും അവയവം മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയായതിനാൽ ഒരാഴ്ചയോളം നിർണായകമാണ്. ശസ്ത്രക്രിയകൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയ മുഴുവൻ ടീമിനേയും ആരോഗ്യമന്ത്രി അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു.
