In the wake of rising cases of amoebic meningoencephalitis (brain fever), the government has issued guidelines for pollution control in water bodies and swimming pools. The order was released by the State Public Health Officer to ensure precautionary measures are in place. The directive states that the use of public and private swimming pools, as well as bathing in polluted ponds, lakes, and stagnant streams, can cause infections. Operators of resorts, hotels, water theme parks, and swimming training centers must chlorinate the water daily and maintain a special register for inspection by panchayat health officials. Chlorination must also be carried out in water storage facilities used for drinking water. Relevant agencies, such as the Water Authority and Jalnidhi, must ensure proper cleaning of water supply networks. Water from pipelines where the presence of amoeba is confirmed must not be used for domestic purposes. Wastewater and solid waste must not be allowed to flow into water sources.
