Another case of amoebic brain fever has been confirmed in the state. The disease was diagnosed in a 10-year-old boy from Malappuram, who was undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The confirmation came after a fluid test conducted on Wednesday. Researchers recently observed changes in the transmission of amoebic brain fever. Earlier, it was believed that the amoeba entered the brain through the nose while bathing in stagnant water. However, the detection of the disease in individuals who had not bathed in stagnant water has raised concerns. Further studies suggest that the infection may also spread through wounds.
സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് വീണ്ടും ഒരാൾക്കുകൂടി അമീബിക് മസ്തിഷ്ക ജ്വരം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചു. കോഴിക്കോട് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ ചികിത്സയിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന മലപ്പുറം സ്വദേശിയായ പത്തുവയസ്സുകാരനാണ് രോഗം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്. ബുധനാഴ്ച നടത്തിയ സ്രവ പരിശോധനയിലാണ് രോഗം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചത്. അമീബിക് മസ്തിഷ്കജ്വര രോഗവ്യാപനത്തിൽ മാറ്റം സംഭവിച്ചതായി കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഗവേഷകർ വിലയിരുത്തിയിരുന്നു. മുമ്പ് കെട്ടിക്കിടക്കുന്ന വെള്ളത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി കുളിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെ അമീബ മൂക്കിലൂടെ തലച്ചോറിൽ എത്തുന്നതായാണ് വിലയിരുത്തിയിരുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ കെട്ടിക്കിടക്കുന്ന വെള്ളത്തിൽ കുളിക്കാത്തവരിലും രോഗം കണ്ടെത്തിയത് ആശങ്ക വർധിപ്പിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് നടത്തിയ പുതിയ പരിശോധനകളിൽ മുറിവുകളിലൂടെയും രോഗബാധ ഉണ്ടകാമെന്ന നിഗമനത്തിലാണ് ഗവേഷകർ എത്തിയത്.
