Two deaths have been reported due to an infection caused by a rare type of bacteria known as “flesh-eating bacteria.” Reports state that the cause of death was consuming oysters without cooking. The incidents occurred in Louisiana and Florida, USA. Twenty-two people have been hospitalized with various symptoms. Authorities from the Louisiana Department of Health confirmed that the infection was caused by Vibrio vulnificus, a bacteria found in seawater and marine life. Vibrio vulnificus belongs to the same family as the bacteria that causes cholera. So far this year, four people have died after the bacteria entered their system. The infection can spread either by consuming raw seafood or when open wounds come in contact with water containing the bacteria. Officials also stated that most of those hospitalized were infected through wounds and have issued a public health warning in the region.
അപൂര്‍വയിനം ‘മാംസഭോജി’ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ബാക്ടീരിയ മൂലമുണ്ടായ അണുബാധയെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് രണ്ടുമരണം. കടല്‍ വിഭവമായ ഓയ്സ്റ്റര്‍ പാകം ചെയ്യാതെ കഴിച്ചതാണ് മരണകാരണമായതെന്നാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍. യു.എസിലെ ലൂസിയാനയിലും ഫ്‌ളോറിഡയിലുമായാണ് സംഭവം . വിവിധ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളുമായി 22 ആളുകളെ ആശുപത്രികളില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഉപ്പുവെള്ളത്തിലും കടല്‍ ജീവികളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന വൈബ്രിയോ വള്‍നിഫികസ് എന്ന ബാക്ടീരിയയാണ് അണുബാധക്ക് കാരണമെന്ന് ലൂസിയാന ആരോഗ്യവിഭാഗം അധികൃതര്‍ സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചു. കോളറയ്ക്ക് കാരണമാകുന്ന ബാക്ടീരിയയുടെ അതേ കുടുംബത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ടതാണ് വിബ്രിയോ വള്‍നിഫിക്കസ്. ഈ വര്‍ഷം ഇതുവരെ ബാക്ടീരിയ ഉള്ളില്‍ ചെന്ന് നാലുപേരാണ് മരിച്ചത്. പാകം ചെയ്യാത്ത കടല്‍ വിഭവങ്ങള്‍ കഴിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെയും മുറിവുള്ള ശരീരഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ ബാക്ടീരിയ സാന്നിധ്യമുള്ള വെള്ളവുമായി സമ്പര്‍ക്കത്തില്‍ വരുന്നതിലൂടെയുമാണ് അണുബാധയുണ്ടാവുന്നത്. നിലവില്‍ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചവരില്‍ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും മുറിവുകളിലൂടെ ബാക്ടീരിയ ഉള്ളിലേക്ക് കടന്ന് അണുബാധയേറ്റവരാണെന്നും മേഖലയില്‍ ജാഗ്രത നിര്‍ദേശം നല്‍കിയതായും അധികൃതര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
