Another case of amoebic meningoencephalitis (brain fever) has been confirmed in the state. The infection was detected in a 47-year-old man from Chelambra, Malappuram, who is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. He had been admitted with fever for the past 20 days, and the disease was confirmed yesterday after testing his samples. The health department is investigating the source of the infection. Reports suggest that he had worked in Kannur a month ago. The health department has also carried out chlorination in 80 wards of the affected area. In view of the rising spread, authorities have urged the public to completely avoid bathing in stagnant water. Those who have bathed in such waters and are experiencing persistent fever should inform doctors during check-ups without hesitation. Remember, even a small negligence can sometimes cost us dearly.
