Kochi Amrita Hospital successfully restored the vision of a student whose eye was pierced by a tree branch. The student, a native of Palakkad, underwent a two-hour-long surgery to remove the 9.5 cm long and 1.4 cm wide branch from his eye. The incident occurred last Tuesday evening while the student was playing, and a friend accidentally threw the branch, which pierced the left eye. The branch was removed through a complex surgery led by Dr. Suchitra Haridas (Professor and Surgeon, Ophthalmology), Dr. Renuka Balu (Associate Professor, ENT), Dr. Praveen Shyam (Pediatric Ophthalmology), Dr. Arun Balaji (Senior Resident, ENT), Dr. Ramya (Anesthesiology), and Dr. Diana S. (Ophthalmology).
കണ്ണില്‍ മരക്കൊമ്പ് തുളച്ചു കയറിയ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയ്ക്ക് കാഴ്ച ശക്തി തിരിച്ചു നല്‍കി കൊച്ചി അമൃത ആശുപത്രി. പാലക്കാട് സ്വദേശിയായ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയ്ക്കാണ് രണ്ട് മണിക്കൂര്‍ നീണ്ട ശാസ്ത്രക്രിയക്കൊടുവില്‍ 9 സെന്റീ മീറ്ററിലേറെ നീളം വരുന്ന കമ്പ് കണ്ണില്‍ നിന്നും നീക്കം ചെയ്തത്. 9.5 സെന്റീമീറ്റര്‍ നീളവും 1.4 സെന്റിമീറ്റര്‍ വ്യാസവും വരുന്ന മരക്കൊമ്പാണ് വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയുടെ ഇടത്തെ കണ്ണില്‍ തുളച്ചു കയറിയത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച വൈകിട്ട് കളിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ സുഹൃത്ത് എറിഞ്ഞ കമ്പ് അബദ്ധത്തില്‍ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയുടെ കണ്ണില്‍ തുളച്ചു കയറുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇടത്തെ കണ്ണിന്റെ അറ്റം തുളച്ച മരക്കഷ്ണം ഉള്ളിലൂടെ കയറി മൂക്കിന്റെ പാലവും തുളച്ച് വലത്തെ കണ്ണിന്റെ ഇടത്തെ അറ്റം വരെ തുളച്ചു കയറിയ നിലയിലായിരുന്നു. രണ്ടുമണിക്കൂറോളം നീണ്ട ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിലുടെയാണ് മരക്കമ്പ് പുറത്തെടുത്തത്. കൊച്ചി അമൃത ആശുപത്രിയിലെ ഓഫ്ത്താല്‍മോളജി വിഭാഗം പ്രൊഫസറും സര്‍ജനുമായ ഡോ. സുചിത്ര ഹരിദാസ്, ഇ.എന്‍.ടി. വിഭാഗം അസോസിയേറ്റ് പ്രൊഫസര്‍ ഡോക്ടര്‍ രേണുകാ ബാലു, പീഡിയാട്രിക് ഓഫ്ത്താല്‍മോളജി വിഭാഗത്തിലെ ഡോ. പ്രവീണ ശ്യാം, ഇ.എന്‍.ടി വിഭാഗം സീനിയര്‍ റസിഡന്റ് ഡോ. അരുണ്‍ ബാലാജി, അനസ്‌തേഷ്യ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ ഡോ. രമ്യ, ഓഫ്ത്താല്‍മോളജി വിഭാഗത്തിലെ ഡോ. ഡയാന.എസ്. എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ ആയിരുന്നു ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ.
